7 LESSONS FROM THE LIFE OF LOT
1. The dangers of compromise
Lot chose to live in Sodom and Gomorrah, even though he knew it was a place of wickedness and evil.
He compromised his values and principles for the sake of comfort and convenience.
This led to his downfall and the destruction of his home.
"Abram settled in the land of Canaan, while Lot settled among the cities of the plain and pitched his tent near Sodom. Now the men of Sodom were wicked and were sinning greatly against the Lord." Genesis 13:12-13
2.The consequences of sin
Lot’s decision to live in Sodom and Gomorrah exposed him and his family to the sinful practices of the city.
This ultimately led to the destruction of the city and the loss of his wife.
"But Lot's wife looked back, and she became a pillar of salt." Genesis 19:26
3.The power of intercession
Abraham interceded on behalf of Lot and his family, pleading with God to spare them from the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah.
This teaches us the importance of praying for others and interceding on their behalf.
"Then Abraham approached him and said: 'Will you sweep away the righteous with the wicked? What if there are fifty righteous people in the city?... What if only ten are found there?' He answered, 'For the sake of ten, I will not destroy it.'" Genesis 18:23-33
4.The danger of looking back
Lot’s wife looked back at the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah, despite being warned not to and was turned into a pillar of salt. This teaches us the danger of looking back at our past mistakes and not fully moving forward. Looking back blocks you from moving forward…
"As soon as they had brought them out, one of them said, 'Flee for your lives! Don't look back, and don't stop anywhere in the plain! Flee to the mountains or you will be swept away!'" Genesis 19:17
I came with a word TODAY:
Don’t look back! Don’t look back at 2020, 2021 and 2022…. Don’t look back at failure, At disappointments! Just keep moving forward!
Hallelujah…
5.The importance of hospitality
Lot showed hospitality to the angels who visited Sodom and Gomorrah, and this ultimately saved his life and the lives of his family.
This teaches us the importance of showing kindness and hospitality to others, even when it may not seem convenient.
"The two angels arrived at Sodom in the evening, and Lot was sitting in the gateway of the city. When he saw them, he got up to meet them and bowed down with his face to the ground. 'My lords,' he said, 'please turn aside to your servant's house. You can wash your feet and spend the night and then go on your way early in the morning.'" Genesis 19:1-3
6.The danger of peer pressure
Lot was influenced by the wickedness of the people of Sodom and Gomorrah, and this led to his compromise and downfall.
This teaches us the danger of peer pressure and the importance of surrounding ourselves with people who will encourage and uplift us.
" 'Get out of our way,' they replied. 'This fellow came here as a foreigner, and now he wants to play the judge! We'll treat you worse than them.' They kept bringing pressure on Lot and moved forward to break down the door." Genesis 19:9
Stay away from bad pressure. Allow good pressure to push you to elevate you to do more….
7.The faithfulness of God
Despite Lot’s mistakes and shortcomings, God remained faithful to him and spared his life. This teaches us the unwavering faithfulness of God and the importance of trusting in Him, even in difficult circumstances.
There is now an opportunity to sow a seed. God Is Waiting for You to Plant a Seed.
What does a farmer do when he’s got a barren field that’s producing no income? He doesn’t complain about it. He doesn’t even pray about it! He just goes out and starts planting some seed, because nothing is going to happen until he plants the seed. He can pray all he wants, but it’s not going to produce fruit.
He must plant some seed.
Some of you think you’re waiting on God.
You think you’re waiting on God for that job.
You think you’re waiting on God for a husband.
You think you’re waiting on God for the windfall.
God says:
“You think you’re waiting on me?
I’m waiting on you! I’m waiting for you to plant a seed.”
God Almighty
Everything in life starts as a seed — a relationship, a marriage, a business, a church….
And nothing happens until the seed is planted….
Why does God require us to plant a seed?
Because planting is an act of faith. You take what you’ve got, and you give it away. That takes an act of faith! And it brings glory to God.
Jesus described this principle of sowing and reaping when he was trying to explain why he came to Earth to die on the cross.
“Unless a kernel of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains only a single seed. But if it dies, it produces many seeds”. John 12:24 (NIV)
Jesus was saying, “Millions of people will be saved and go to Heaven because of my death and Resurrection.
I’m going to plant a seed, and the seed is going to be my life.”
Here’s the principle of sowing and reaping:
Whenever you have a need, you plant a seed….
